Abstract:
Gene expression in human blood from symptomatic HD patients was compared to that in blood from healthy donors using both the Affymetrix GeneChip Human Genome U133A and the CodeLink Human UniSet 20K microarrays. Microarray analysis demonstrates that this
neurodegenerative disorder results in significant differential gene
expression in peripheral blood. Comparison of the two datasets revealed
a high degree of agreement between the two platforms, both at the individual gene level (~65% overlap) and in the gene ontologies
identified as being enriched in each dataset. Biological processes identified as significantly over-represented among differentially
expressed genes by both platforms include mRNA splicing, the ubiquitin cycle and apoptosis.
