Analysis Summary:
This alternative analysis examines the pathways and molecular functions associated with differentially expressed genes in pure Embryonal Carcinoma, Seminoma, Teratoma and Yolk Sac Tumors compared to normal testis using the Affymetrix Human Genome U133A Array. A comparison of 12 pure Seminoma samples with 5 normal testis samples identified 5990 genes that were differentially expressed in the Seminoma samples using filtering criteria of a false discovery rate less than 5%. Z-score analysis of the ontology terms associated with these genes showed a significant enrichment of genes involved in protein biosynthesis, RNA processing and antigen presentation for the genes with increased expression in the Seminoma samples, while an enrichment for genes involved in spermatogenesis, protein ubiquitination, cell cycle and protein amino acid dephosphorylation was observed for the genes showing decreased expression in the Seminoma samples. Additional comparisons across all four tumor types were done to identify differential gene expression patterns common to all four tumor types, as well as patterns unique to each tumor.
